Texas Discrimination Lawyers

Posted on March 12, 2026

Employment discrimination claims in Texas arise when an employer takes an adverse action against a worker because of a protected characteristic such as race, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, or pregnancy. Texas workers may file claims under both federal law and the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act, giving them access to state and federal remedies depending on the specifics of their situation.

Texas workers who believe they have experienced employment discrimination may file a charge with the Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Under Texas Labor Code Chapter 21, known as the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act, employees must file a complaint with the TWC Civil Rights Division or the EEOC within 180 days of the discriminatory act. Claims can involve race, color, disability, religion, sex, national origin, age, or other protected categories. The TWC Civil Rights Division and EEOC share jurisdiction over many Texas discrimination claims, and filing with one agency typically cross-files with the other. Employees who receive a right-to-sue letter may then pursue claims in court. Remedies under Texas and federal law can include back pay, front pay, compensatory damages, and in some cases punitive damages. An employment attorney can help evaluate the strength of a claim and navigate the administrative filing requirements before any lawsuit is filed.

The firms listed on this page represent a selection of employment discrimination practices operating across Texas. Each firm’s details, including office locations, phone numbers, practice areas, and background information, are based on publicly available data verified at the time of publication.
